France implements new measures to support aging population
France is implementing new measures to address the challenges of an aging population and increasing loss of autonomy. In La Réunion, a new gerontopole has been established with the support of the Agence Régionale de Santé La Réunion. Scheduled for inauguration on September 2, 2026, this association aims to unite institutional, medical, social, and academic actors to improve the quality of life for seniors through innovation, research, and shared expertise. The organization has received labeling from the Union des gérontopôles de France.
Simultaneously, the MaPrimeAdapt’ program will serve as a central mechanism in 2026 to assist with housing adaptation. The initiative aims to prevent falls and facilitate staying at home by financing home modifications such as walk-in showers, stairlifts, and access ramps. Financial aid is available for individuals over 70, those aged 60-69 with recognized dependency, and persons with disabilities. Depending on income levels, the program can cover between 50% and 70% of renovation costs.
