France implements strategies for elderly care and intergenerational housing

France is addressing the challenges of an aging population through diverse housing and care strategies. Intergenerational cohabitation is emerging as a solution to combat social isolation among seniors and housing shortages for youth. The association Le PariSolidaire has facilitated these arrangements since 2004, matching students with seniors to foster mutual aid and informal knowledge exchange.

Simultaneously, the French state is investing in the transformation of EHPADs (residential care facilities for dependent elderly people). With the population over 75 expected to reach 12.5% by 2030, the government is implementing a roadmap to modernize these facilities. Key objectives include adapting building architecture to resident pathologies, creating specialized long-term care units, and ensuring high-quality medical support through territorial resource centers.
