France inflation rises to 2.4% in August 2026

France's inflation rate rose to 2.4% in August 2026, up from 2.1% in July, according to data from Insee. The harmonized consumer price index (HICP) increased by 2.7% year-on-year, driven largely by a 16.7% surge in energy costs and a 5.8% rise in fresh food prices.

In response to the economic pressure, the government has implemented an emergency plan for the agricultural sector, including 450 million euros in aid for 2026. Additionally, Labor Minister Jean-Pierre Farandou confirmed that social benefits, specifically the RSA and ASPA, will be indexed to inflation starting in October 2026, a move estimated to cost 1.2 billion euros annually.
