France Inter cancels Charles Sapin editorial following union pressure
In France, Radio France has decided to cancel a weekly editorial segment by journalist Charles Sapin on France Inter. The decision follows two weeks of strikes and protests by unions. Sapin has criticized the move as “preventive censorship,” arguing that the decision aims to exclude his perspective from public debate.
While Radio France management stated they yielded to union pressure, they maintained that the station would continue to reflect a “diversity of sensibilities” and offered Sapin a role in a debate program instead. The situation has drawn political reactions, with some representatives condemning the move as a sign of media radicalization, while others have supported the removal.
