France introduces new birth leave and corporate benefit shifts

France is seeing shifts in employee benefits and labor rights. Starting July 1, 2026, a new supplementary birth leave will be available to employees following a birth or adoption. This right allows for one or two months of absence, which can be taken in two one-month blocks, provided it is used within nine months of the child's arrival. The leave is funded by the Health Insurance system (Assurance maladie) rather than the employer, with daily indemnities set at 70% of net salary for the first month and 60% for the second.

In a separate corporate development, the homeopathy leader Boiron, based near Lyon, has implemented a “life key moments account.” This social agreement allows employees with three years of seniority to receive four extra days of leave per year, increasing to five days after five years. For long-term employees with 20 years of service, the plan offers a total of up to 113 additional days throughout their career, including the option to take two full extra weeks at specific points in their professional lives.
