France investigates ambassador in Central African Republic

The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has launched a disciplinary procedure against Bruno Foucher, the French ambassador to the Central African Republic. The investigation follows allegations regarding his conduct at the official residence in Bangui between January 2024 and March 2026.

Reports indicate that Foucher allegedly hosted approximately thirty women at the diplomatic residence, some of whom reportedly stayed overnight or engaged in intimate relationships with the ambassador. These actions prompted security services to flag a potential security breach. An administrative inspection conducted in April 2026 led to the current disciplinary proceedings.

According to reports, Foucher has partially admitted to having sexual relations with two women. The disciplinary measures under consideration could range from a formal reprimand to dismissal from the civil service or forced retirement. This scandal occurs during a period of sensitive diplomatic efforts to stabilize relations between Paris and Bangui.
