France launches 11th edition of Month Without Tobacco campaign

The 11th edition of the ‘Month Without Tobacco’ (Mois sans tabac) campaign is being launched to encourage smokers to quit through a 30-day collective challenge. Organized by Santé publique France, the initiative aims to help participants transition from intention to action by providing structured support.

Participants have access to free, personalized resources, including a 40-day cessation kit, a dedicated telephone consultation service with tobacco specialists, and coaching via the ‘Tabac info service’ application. Data indicates that successfully completing 30 days without smoking can multiply the chances of permanent cessation by five times.

In La Réunion, health authorities emphasize the urgency of the campaign, noting that tobacco use causes more than 600 deaths annually on the island. Nationally, tobacco remains the leading cause of preventable mortality in France, accounting for over 68,000 deaths in 2023, or approximately 11% of total mortality.
