France launches annual influenza and Covid-19 vaccination campaign

France has launched its annual vaccination campaign for influenza and Covid-19 for the 2026-2027 season. The campaign, which began on October 13 in mainland France, aims to protect vulnerable populations, including the elderly, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses or immunodeficiencies.

Health officials noted that while there has been encouraging progress, current protection levels remain below what is necessary. To combat this, 15 million doses of the influenza vaccine are available this season, an increase of approximately one million compared to last year. Among the available vaccines are Sanofi’s Efluelda and Seqirus’s Fluad, which are specifically recommended for seniors.

Addressing vaccine hesitancy, data from Santé publique France indicates that 36.7% of adults aged 18 to 79 express distrust toward certain vaccinations. In response to the ongoing need for protection, authorities are also preparing regulatory texts for a potential annual vaccination mandate for healthcare professionals, expected by the end of the first quarter of 2027.
