France launches first wave of tax refunds for 12.6 million households
On 24 July, the Direction Générale des Finances Publiques (DGFiP) began a first wave of income‑tax refunds covering about 12.6 million French households. The average refund is €1,057 and is automatically transferred to recipients’ bank accounts under the label “REM IMPOT REVENUS”. No action is required from taxpayers. A second wave is scheduled for 31 July to complete the program, reflecting the large number of eligible families. Eligibility is linked to tax credits or reductions for 2025 expenses, changes in income, or family events such as the birth of a child, not to the amount of the refund itself.
The refunds are part of the government's effort to adjust for inflation‑linked tax brackets and to return over‑paid taxes without additional paperwork.
