France launches social electric‑car leasing scheme for 50,000 households in July 2026

A government‑backed social leasing programme for electric vehicles will start on 16 July 2026, targeting up to 50,000 eligible households. Subsidies range from €6,500 to €9,500 per vehicle and eligibility depends on price (under €47,000), weight (under 1.8 t), European‑made battery and motor, and an eco‑score.

Renault will offer four models under the scheme – the newly unveiled Twingo, the R5, the R4 and the Megane E‑Tech. Monthly leases are capped at €200, with the base‑spec Twingo priced at €130 per month for a three‑year commitment and a claimed 263 km range per charge. The vehicle includes an OpenR Link infotainment system with integrated Google services and up to 24 driver‑assist features.

Other manufacturers have also announced participation, with offers such as a Citroën e‑C3 at €54 per month and additional models from Kia, MG, BMW and others, reflecting a broader push toward affordable electric mobility in France.
