France leads global ski tourism with record attendance

France has reclaimed its position as the world's leading ski destination, recording 56.1 million skier days during the 2025-2026 winter season, surpassing Austria and the United States.

Within France, the Pyrenees mountain range showed the strongest growth, with attendance increasing by 9% compared to the previous year and 12% above the average of the last four seasons. Other regions also saw gains, including the Southern Alps (+5%) and Haute-Savoie (+4.5%).

In the Haute-Savoie region, the Grand Massif ski area—which connects Samoëns, Les Carroz-d’Arâches, Morillon, Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, and Flaine—is preparing for its upcoming season from December 12 to April 11. The domain features 265 kilometers of slopes and emphasizes accessibility for beginners, particularly on the Saix plateau.
