France beats Norway 4-1 to finish top of Group I at World Cup 2026
On 26 June 2026 at Boston’s Gillette Stadium, France defeated Norway 4‑1 in the final Group I match of the FIFA World Cup. Ousmane Dembélé scored a first‑half hat‑trick (minutes 7, 20 and 32) and Desire Doué added a fourth goal in stoppage time. Norway’s only goal came from Thelo Aasgaard. France fielded a largely reserve side after assistant coach Guy Stéphan took charge while head coach Didier Deschamps was away following his mother’s death. Norway rested several regulars, including striker Erling Haaland. The win gave France nine points, a perfect record and the top spot in Group I; they will face one of the best third‑placed teams in the round of 16. Norway finished second with six points and will meet Ivory Coast in the knockout stage. Both sides had already secured qualification before the match.
