France leads international player representation in NBA
The 2026-27 NBA season has commenced with a significant global presence, featuring 125 international players from 43 different countries. For the first time in 13 years, France has overtaken Canada to become the most represented nation in the league after the United States.
France currently boasts 17 active players, accounting for approximately 14% of the league's international talent. This shift follows a long period of Canadian dominance, with Canada now holding 16 players. The French contingent includes established veterans like Rudy Gobert alongside rising stars such as Victor Wembanyama.
Spain also maintains a presence in the league with five players. The increasing number of international athletes highlights the growing global influence of the NBA and the strength of European basketball development programs.
