France: Legal challenges arise over residency permit denials

Legal challenges regarding residency permits and deportation orders (OQTF) are highlighting the complexities of administrative decisions in France. The Val-de-Marne prefecture had denied the renewal, citing a 2019 criminal conviction as a “grave threat to public order.” However, the Melun Administrative Tribunal reviewed the case, noting that the sentence had been significantly reduced by the Paris Court of Appeal and that the individual had no subsequent infractions.

In a separate matter, an Algerian national residing in Châlons-en-Champagne since 2017 is facing an OQTF following the rejection of his residency application by the Marne prefecture. The individual, a former physical education professor who has established businesses and local community ties, is seeking a re-examination of his file. His legal defense emphasizes his long-term residence, professional activity, and local volunteer work, while also noting his claims of political and cultural persecution in his home country.
