France Livret A savings rate expected to rise
The interest rate for the Livret A, France’s most popular regulated savings account, is projected to increase during its next scheduled revision. While the rate has remained at 1.70% since August 2026, mathematical models based on the official formula suggest a theoretical rise to approximately 2.20%.
The rate is determined twice a year by the Banque de France using a formula that averages six-month inflation (excluding tobacco) and the short-term interbank rate (€STR). This recommendation is then passed to the Ministry of Economy.
In comparison to other financial products, such as BNP Paribas’s three-month term deposit offering 4% gross annual interest, the Livret A remains a staple for millions of French savers due to its regulated nature, though its net returns are currently being weighed against higher-yield taxable alternatives.
