France mobilizes support for millions of family caregivers
In France, initiatives are increasing to support the millions of individuals providing care to relatives with illnesses, disabilities, or loss of autonomy. Ahead of the National Caregivers Day on October 6, various organizations and local authorities are working to address the isolation and lack of information facing these caregivers.
Agirc-Arrco is conducting a week of events in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region to provide guidance and prevent burnout. A recent study by the organization revealed a significant gap in support: out of approximately 11 million caregivers in France, 76% reported receiving no support solutions, often due to a lack of awareness regarding available resources.
In the Nièvre department, local authorities held meetings to discuss the legal and social recognition of caregivers. Meanwhile, the publication of the book ‘Quand on devient aidant familial’ aims to break the silence surrounding the physical and psychological burdens of caregiving, highlighting the risks of chronic fatigue and emotional distress.
