France Nature Environnement launches campaign against illegal dumping

France Nature Environnement has launched a national campaign titled ‘Stop aux décharges illégales!’ to combat illegal waste dumping in natural landscapes, forests, and roadsides. The initiative aims to address the pollution of soil, water, and biodiversity caused by unauthorized waste sites.

Through the ‘Sentinelles de la Nature’ program, citizens are encouraged to report large-scale illegal dumpsites—defined as areas equivalent to a tennis court or larger—using a dedicated mobile application and website. The collected data will be used to map the phenomenon, helping local authorities identify sites and overcome legal obstacles to environmental restoration.

The campaign also includes a series of webinars and training sessions designed to educate citizens and local officials on waste regulations and actionable tools for prevention and remediation.
