France weather: Summer-like heat returns this weekend

A powerful anticyclone is bringing unseasonably warm, summer-like weather to much of France for the weekend of September 19–20, 2026. Forecasters indicate that the high-pressure system will likely persist into the following week.

Temperatures are expected to rise significantly across the country. In the south and southwest, including regions like Languedoc and near the Pyrenees, daytime highs could reach between 26°C and 30°C. Central and northern areas will also see pleasant temperatures, generally ranging from 22°C to 27°C, though some northern coastal areas may experience lighter clouds or drizzle.

While most of the country enjoys sunshine, some local variations are expected. Morning temperatures may remain cool, particularly in the north and in certain valleys, before warming up in the afternoon. Some areas, such as the southern Alps and Corsica, may encounter occasional thunderstorms.
