France Num report shows rising AI adoption among SMEs

The 2026 France Num barometer reveals a significant acceleration in artificial intelligence adoption among French very small enterprises (TPE) and small to medium-sized enterprises (PME). Approximately 40% of TPEs now utilize AI solutions, marking a 14-point increase over the previous year, while 53% of PMEs have integrated the technology.

AI usage is diversifying across sectors, with 34% of companies using it for text, voice, or image generation, and 24% employing chatbots or research assistants. While 68% of AI users report a positive impact on their business, the report also notes an erosion of confidence among very small businesses regarding digital benefits and persistent exposure to cybersecurity risks.

To support this digital transition, public initiatives such as the ‘Osez l’IA’ plan, launched in July 2025, provide structured pathways for training and expertise. Under the France 2030 framework, the coverage for ‘Data IA Diagnostics’ has increased to 40% for eligible companies. Additionally, the France Num directories now offer specialized access to cybersecurity experts to help businesses manage risks and continuity planning.
