France pension reform adjustments to benefit specific birth years
New measures resulting from the suspension of the 2023 pension reform will alter retirement conditions for specific age groups in France. Effective from September 1, 2026, these adjustments aim to freeze or revise the trajectory of the legal retirement age and required contribution periods.
The primary beneficiaries are individuals born between 1964 and 1968. Depending on their birth year, these citizens may see a reduction in the legal retirement age by three to six months. For example, those born in 1964 could retire at 62 years and 9 months instead of 63, while those born in early 1965 could see a reduction of up to six months.
However, the impact is not universal. Individuals born in 1969 or later are expected to see no change to their retirement age, which remains at 64. Additionally, while the legal age for departure may decrease for some, this does not automatically guarantee a full pension, as contribution requirements still apply.
