France pension reforms to benefit mothers and caregivers from September 2026
New French pension regulations set to take effect on September 1, 2026, will introduce favorable adjustments for mothers and caregivers. Under the new rules, the calculation of the basic pension for mothers will be based on their 24 best years if they have one child, or their 23 best years if they have two or more children.
Additionally, up to two quarters related to children can now be counted toward the contribution requirements for early retirement under the long career scheme. The AVPF system will continue to allow parents or caregivers to validate up to four basic retirement quarters per year, funded by the CAF based on the SMIC.
For individuals born between 1964 and 1968, the legal retirement age will range between 62 years 9 months and 63 years 9 months, depending on their specific birth quarter. These changes aim to mitigate the impact of career interruptions caused by maternity and childcare.
