France praised as top World Cup favourite by Sweden coach

Sweden coach Graham Potter said he sees no real weaknesses in the French team, describing France as the tournament’s top favourite after Sweden’s round‑of‑32 exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Potter noted France’s quality across all areas, citing their options and Kylian Mbappé’s speed, skill and finishing, and emphasized the respect Sweden must have for such an opponent.

He added that Sweden would have needed to play a perfect match to have any chance, recalling the Swedes’ 5‑1 win over Tunisia, a 1‑1 draw with Japan and a heavy 5‑1 defeat to the Netherlands that led to their elimination. France, meanwhile, have dominated the group stage with ten goals and victories over Senegal, Norway and Iraq. Potter also conveyed condolences to French manager Didier Deschamps on the recent loss of his mother.
