France prepares for mandatory electronic invoicing implementation

France is approaching a mandatory deadline for electronic invoicing. Starting September 1, all companies must be capable of receiving electronic invoices, while the smallest enterprises will be required to issue them starting in September 2027.

Proponents of the reform argue that the system is essential to combat payment delays, which are a primary cause of failure for very small businesses. The initiative is described as a long-standing legislative process involving parliamentary votes and consultations with professional organizations, rather than a sudden administrative mandate. The reform aligns France with other European nations, such as Italy, which implemented similar systems in 2019.
