France property tax notices for 2026 released
The 2026 property tax (taxe foncière) notices are being released online and via mail in France. While the national revaluation of cadastral bases is limited to 0.8%, actual tax amounts vary significantly based on local rates voted by municipalities.
Several relief mechanisms exist for specific groups. Full exemptions are available for recipients of certain social benefits (ASPA, ASI, AAH) and for residents over 75 meeting specific income thresholds. A 100 euro reduction is available for seniors aged 65 to 74. Additionally, some municipalities offer temporary exemptions for properties that have undergone energy-saving renovations.
Taxpayers are cautioned to review their notices carefully. Some audits suggest potential overvaluations due to errors in calculated living space, which could result in significant savings if contested. Furthermore, the Direction générale des finances publiques has warned of increased phishing risks following recent unauthorized data access involving approximately 678,000 individuals, though official tax notices and payment systems remain secure.
