France proposes raising Livret A savings ceiling to 30,000 euros

Monique Barbut, the Minister for Ecological Transition, has proposed increasing the ceiling of the Livret A savings account from its current limit of 22,950 euros to 30,000 euros. The objective of this proposal is to help finance the national plan for climate change adaptation.

Under this proposed structure, with an interest rate maintained at 1.7%, a saver with 30,000 euros could earn 505 euros in interest annually, compared to approximately 390 euros under the current ceiling. However, the proposal would only affect an estimated 15% of Livret A holders, as the average balance held in the account is 7,554 euros as of 2025.
