France provides EUR 200 million to boost food security in Philippines

The Philippine Department of Finance and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) have partnered to launch the Reducing Food Insecurity and Undernutrition with Electronic Vouchers (REFUEL) Project. Supported by EUR 200 million in financing from the AFD, the initiative aims to strengthen food security and nutrition for approximately 750,000 low-income households.

Implemented alongside the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the project will provide monthly electronic food vouchers redeemable at accredited retailers. In addition to direct food assistance, participating families will receive support regarding maternal and child nutrition, hygiene, healthy meal planning, and livelihood opportunities. The project is also co-financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
