France raises Livret A interest rate to 1.7% from August 2026

The French government confirmed that the regulated savings account Livret A will see its net interest rate increase from 1.5 % to 1.7 % on 1 August 2026, as announced by Economy Minister Roland Lescure. The modest rise adds only a few dozen euros of interest per year for a fully‑subscribed account, but it helps offset inflation and preserves the account’s role as a low‑risk, liquid savings vehicle.

The change also rekindles the comparison with life‑insurance (assurance vie) contracts, whose euro‑fund components typically yield around 2.9‑4 % before taxes, offering higher returns than the revised Livret A rate. Savers are advised to consider the ceiling on Livret A balances and the tax‑free nature of the account when deciding where to place additional funds.
