France raises Livret A savings rate to 1.70% from August 1, 2026

On 1 August 2026 the French government will increase the interest rate on the Livret A savings account from 1.5 % to 1.7 % net, marking the first rise since February 2023. The change was announced by Economy Minister Roland Lescure on 15 July, following a recommendation from the governor of the Banque de France.

The adjustment also applies to the Livret de Développement Durable et Solidaire (LDDS), which will adopt the same 1.7 % rate. The Livret d’Épargne Populaire (LEP) keeps its 2.5 % net rate. With about 58 million Livret A holders, the average net yield for the full year 2026 is expected to be around 1.6 %.

For a holder at the Livret A ceiling of €22,950, the higher rate translates into roughly €367 of net interest per year, while the LEP ceiling would generate about €252. The rate formula continues to combine inflation (excluding tobacco) over the past twelve months with the Euro‑area inter‑bank rate, a method used for the semi‑annual revisions.
