France reports 47% increase in organic food reporting for canteens
The number of collective catering establishments in France reporting their purchases via digital platforms has increased by 47% for the 2026 campaign. According to Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard, nearly 50,000 sites—including nurseries, hospitals, and elderly care homes—used the ‘ma cantine’ platform to report purchases made in 2025, representing 59% of all collective catering sites.
This reporting surge facilitates monitoring compliance with the Egalim Law of 2018 and the Climate Law of 2021. These regulations mandate that at least 50% of purchase value consists of sustainable and high-quality products, with a minimum of 20% being organic.
Data from 2025 shows that sustainable and high-quality products accounted for 31.1% of supplies, with organic products making up 12.1%. While overall figures show only a slight increase from 2024, school catering has shown significant progress; primary schools are exceeding the 20% organic target, and nurseries are meeting both the organic and sustainable product objectives.
