France reports rise in violent crimes and anti‑LGBT+ offenses in 2025

The French Ministry of the Interior released its 2025 crime report, noting a 5 % increase in physical violence, affecting 472 000 victims, and a continued rise in sexual violence with 132 100 victims and a 15 % jump in rapes and attempted rapes. Drug‑related offences reached 350 800 cases, driven by a 9 % rise in trafficking and an 18 % increase in cocaine use and a 20 % rise in cocaine trafficking. Digital offences grew 14 % to 453 900 incidents, with attacks on institutions up 20 %.

In the same year, anti‑LGBT+ infractions totaled 4 900 across France. Crimes and misdemeanors (64 % of the total) rose 4 % year‑on‑year, while contraventions fell 3 %. Only about 3 % of victims filed complaints. The majority of offences were insults, defamation and threats (33 %), with physical threats and assaults each accounting for roughly 20 % of crimes.

These statistics highlight a shift in French criminal activity toward violent and digital offences and a modest increase in hate‑related crimes against LGBT+ individuals.
