France reports teen killed in scooter‑car crash and serious scooter collision in Montauban

A 16‑year‑old riding a scooter was struck by a car on the D116 near Fermanville in the Manche department early on 30 July. The teen, who was not wearing lights or reflective clothing, was thrown several metres and died at the scene despite rapid emergency response. Police suspect the driver, a man in his twenties, was overtaking when the collision occurred; investigations into speed, alcohol and drug use are ongoing.

Two days later, on 28 July in Montauban, Tarn‑et‑Garonne, two men on electric scooters collided head‑on on Avenue Marceau‑Hamecher. The 20‑year‑old sustained a knee injury and was taken to the local hospital, while the 19‑year‑old escaped unharmed. Emergency services reported no material damage to the scooters and the riders exchanged contact details after the incident.
