France wins European blind football championship

The French national blind football team has secured its fourth European title after defeating England 1-0 in the final held in Strasbourg. Captain Frédéric Villeroux scored the decisive goal in the 10th minute of the match. This victory marks France's second consecutive European championship and follows their gold medal performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Villeroux was the tournament's top scorer for France, netting six goals in total. The team completed the competition undefeated, having previously secured victories against Germany and Greece in the group stages, and Italy in the semi-finals. Italy finished third in the tournament after defeating Turkey 4-1.

Following the match, Villeroux expressed his joy regarding the increased visibility of the sport, noting that the presence of over 1,000 spectators was a significant increase from typical crowds. French President Emmanuel Macron also congratulated the team on social media, praising their talent and collective effort.
