France retirement system: pension ceilings and revaluations

In France, upcoming adjustments to the retirement system involve both survivor pension rules and supplementary pension revaluations.

Regarding survivor pensions (pension de réversion), a resource ceiling of €25,001.60 applies to the basic state pension scheme. If a survivor's total resources exceed this threshold, the basic pension amount is reduced. However, this ceiling does not affect the Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension portion. To qualify for the basic survivor pension, the spouse must be at least 55 years old and must have been legally married, as civil unions (PACS) or cohabitation do not grant these rights.

For the Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension, a revaluation is being discussed following a period of stagnation. Based on Insee inflation forecasts, the potential increase is expected to range between 1.2% and 2%. For a monthly gross pension of €1,000, this would result in an increase of approximately €12 to €20 per month. These adjustments are expected to apply to payments in November and December, with the full impact being realized in 2027.
