France riots: MMA fighter Mathis Chevalier injured by tear gas

MMA fighter Mathis Chevalier has sustained serious injuries during widespread riots in France. The athlete reported via Instagram that he was struck in the head by a tear gas canister that exploded upon impact while he was at Place de la République on Saturday.

Chevalier’s injuries include a concussion, bruising around the eye, and wounds near the temple.

In response to the ongoing unrest and acts of vandalism, French President Emmanuel Macron issued an address condemning the violence. He described the riots as ‘unexplainable and inexcusable,’ stating that those responsible for attempting to undermine the Republic will be held accountable.
