France: Rising costs squeeze household purchasing power
French consumers are facing significant pressure on their purchasing power due to the rising costs of essential goods and services. The CLCV association in Côte-d’Or has issued an alert regarding the financial strain on households, noting that simultaneous increases in food, energy, fuel, insurance, rent, and healthcare costs are becoming unmanageable.
As a result, many households are being forced to make difficult trade-offs. Consumers are increasingly scrutinizing prices, reducing quantities, and focusing spending strictly on necessities. This shift in behavior includes postponing medical care, reducing food purchases, and opting for cheaper alternatives to manage shrinking budgets.
