France security experts debate use of ‘police violence’ term
Security expert Éric Delbecque and former gendarmerie general Stéphane Fauvelet have raised concerns regarding the use of the term ‘police violence’ in France. They argue that the expression can undermine the legitimacy of law enforcement and the authority of the State, particularly amidst ongoing student mobilizations.
This debate follows reports of serious injuries among protesters during recent demonstrations. Anne Savinel-Barras, president of Amnesty International France, has expressed alarm over what she describes as disproportionate police repression against students protesting for rights to education and health.
