France sees July 2026 burglaries rise 7% year‑on‑year
Official data from the French Ministry of the Interior’s statistical service (SSMSI) show that in July 2026 there were 18,665 residential burglaries, 1,246 more than in July 2025 – a rise of about 7.1 %. When commercial premises are included, the total number of burglaries reached 27,648, up 5.7 % compared with the same month a year earlier. The SSMSI notes that residential burglary numbers have been on a stable trend since the fourth quarter of 2024, while overall crime fell 3 % in 2025.
Authorities advise citizens to reduce the risk by installing alarms or cameras, joining the Operation Tranquillité Vacances (OTV) neighbourhood watch, and limiting the amount of personal information shared on social‑media platforms, as recommended by the CNIL.
