France sees rise in solo-maxxing lifestyle trend
In France, a lifestyle trend known as ‘solo-maxxing’ is gaining traction among young adults on social media. The term describes a conscious decision to prioritize personal goals, independence, and individual leisure over seeking romantic partnerships.
Data from the national statistics institute Insee reflects a demographic shift toward living alone. In 2023, 19.2 percent of adults aged 20 to 39 in France lived alone, up from 16.8 percent in 2017. The increase was particularly notable among men aged 25 to 39, rising from 19.2 percent to 21.8 percent during that period, while the rate for women in the same age group rose from 12.4 percent to 14.7 percent.
