France sees youth astronomy workshop and Venus-Moon conjunction observed in June 2026

From July 7 to July 10 2026, the Forum des Sciences in Villeneuve‑d’Ascq will host a hands‑on astronomy workshop for children aged ten and up. The program includes sky‑watching activities, lessons on lunar phases, eclipses and planetary motion, and a special session on the upcoming solar eclipse of 12 August 2026.

On the night of 17 June 2026, French sky‑watchers noted a bright point near the Moon shortly after sunset. The object was identified as the planet Venus, appearing to cling to the Moon during an apparent conjunction. Observers were advised that Venus would remain visible until it set around 23:00, with Jupiter and, faintly, Mercury also in the vicinity.
