France sets 2033 deadline for pink driving license replacement
French motorists holding the traditional pink cardboard driving license must transition to the new credit card-sized format before January 19, 2033. While the old document remains valid until that date, the transition is intended to align with European standards and enhance security through features like electronic chips and MRZ bands.
Drivers can replace their old license early to avoid a potential rush of administrative requests near the deadline. The replacement process is free of charge, excluding potential costs for identity photos. If a driver fails to update their license by the 2033 deadline, they risk fines ranging from 11 to 135 euros during roadside checks.
To facilitate the change, applications can be submitted online via the Agence nationale des titres sécurisés (ANTS) website. Required documentation includes a digital copy of the current license, a recent identity photo, and proof of residence. The new document will be delivered directly to the holder's home.
