France Sets Carbon Footprint Goal, Japan Launches 2026 Regulatory Reform Plan

The French government approved its third National Low‑Carbon Strategy, introducing the world’s first carbon‑footprint reduction target that includes emissions from imported goods. The plan aims to cut overall domestic consumption‑related emissions by 71‑79% by 2050 compared with 2010 levels and reaffirms a 50% cut in greenhouse gases by 2030 relative to 1990.

Meanwhile, the Japanese government adopted a 2026 regulatory reform implementation plan, identifying 28 priority sectors such as artificial intelligence, agriculture, energy and work‑style flexibility. The plan is intended to accelerate key pillars of its growth strategy by removing unnecessary regulations and supporting the nation’s broader economic objectives.
