France sets Thursday start for 2027‑28 school year

The French Ministry of National Education issued the official school calendar for the 2027‑2028 academic year. The decree, published on 23 July, fixes the first day of classes for zones A, B and C on Thursday 2 September 2027, with the school year ending on Tuesday 4 July 2028. The same dates apply to all students in mainland France, while overseas academies (Corsica, Guadeloupe, Guyane, Martinique, Mayotte, Réunion, Saint‑Barthélemy, Saint‑Martin, Saint‑Pierre‑et‑Miquelon) will set their own schedules.

The calendar also confirms the usual holiday periods: Toussaint holidays run from Saturday 23 October to Monday 8 November 2027, and Christmas break from Saturday 18 December 2027 to Monday 3 January 2028. An earlier release detailed the 2026‑2027 dates and introduced an online tool for families to check their zone‑specific schedule.
