France strawberry yields drop up to 20% due to heatwaves

Heatwaves in France have significantly impacted strawberry production, with yields decreasing by 5% to 20%. According to data from AOPn Fraises Framboises de France, weather-related losses were estimated at approximately 10 million euros through July 31.

While the 2026 season began favorably with strong yields in March, April, and May, conditions deteriorated in June as rising temperatures affected crops. The heatwave not only reduced yields but also increased pest pressure for summer strawberry producers. The impact varies by variety; the Gariguette variety was less affected due to its earlier spring maturation.
