France strengthens economic security as alerts triple

The French government is strengthening its economic security measures in response to a significant rise in alerts. The Service de l’information stratégique et de la sécurité économiques (SISSE), part of the Direction générale des Entreprises, reported that economic security alerts in 2025 have tripled compared to 2020 levels.

During the Assises de la sécurité économique organized by Roland Lescure, officials detailed the evolving nature of these threats. The alerts are becoming more widespread, affecting not only large corporations but also small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-cap companies, particularly within the defense industrial and technological base (BITD).

Data indicates that over 50% of cases are handled outside the Île-de-France region, with significant activity in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Occitanie, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. The threats originate from approximately fifty different countries and involve diverse operational methods targeting strategic assets and emerging startups.
