France Télévisions criticized over removal of Adèle Haenel clip

France Télévisions is facing criticism from left-wing politicians and actress Adèle Haenel following the removal of a video segment from its website. The clip featured Haenel accusing Israel of committing “genocide in Palestine” during an appearance on the program “La Grande Librairie”.

Left-wing figures, including members of La France Insoumise, Senator Ian Brossat, and Socialist candidate Olivier Faure, have condemned the removal, with Faure describing the decision as “a shame”. Conversely, National Rally deputy Julien Odoul criticized the actress for allegedly relaying “Hamas propaganda” without nuance.

France Télévisions has denied allegations of censorship, characterizing the action as a “precautionary measure”. The public broadcaster stated that while Haenel was permitted to present her book and her closing remarks were broadcast, the replay was suspended to allow the audiovisual regulator, Arcom, to conduct an evaluation following multiple formal complaints.
