France to adjust pension calculations for fathers with child-related rights

Starting September 1, 2026, new pension calculation rules in France may increase retirement benefits for certain fathers. The adjustment allows the average annual income used for basic pension calculations to be determined based on the 24 best years for those with one child, and the 23 best years for those with two or more children. This change aims to exclude lower-earning years from the average.

To benefit from this update, fathers must personally hold specific rights related to children, such as education, adoption, or parental leave credits. Gaëtan Cochard, an expert at Kereis Expertises, noted that simply being a father is insufficient; the individual must have benefited from specific insurance duration bonuses to qualify for the new calculation method.
