France to become largest shareholder of Eramet mining group
The French State, through the Agence des participations de l'État (APE), is set to become the largest shareholder of the mining group Eramet. This move follows a planned capital increase of up to 500 million euros scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
Eramet, a key player in the extraction and processing of strategic metals such as manganese, nickel, and lithium, reported a net loss of 477 million euros in 2025. The recapitalization aims to strengthen the company's financial structure and reduce high debt levels. To maintain economic sovereignty, the State intends to increase its stake from approximately 27% to a level that remains below 50% of the capital and voting rights.
The Duval family, which currently holds a significant portion of the company, will remain the second-largest shareholder. The agreement between the State and the Duval family is intended to provide the group with the necessary resources to secure industrial supplies for France and Europe amidst global geopolitical tensions.
