Macron emphasized that the mission is defensive and intended to secure the site rather than involve France in active combat. Yanbu is a vital energy hub connected to the East-West Pipeline, which has a capacity of seven million barrels of oil per day.

The United Kingdom has provided a Royal Air Force Voyager tanker for defensive operations, and a Greek-operated Patriot system has been active in the region. Additionally, Italy is preparing to deploy warships to the Bab al-Mandab Strait to secure shipping lanes.

In response to the escalating threat, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkiye are coordinating an urgent meeting of their military chiefs of staff under the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, which stipulates that an attack on one member is treated as an attack on all.
