France to implement new visa waiting list system in 2026

Starting October 15, 2026, France will implement a new waiting list system for short-term Schengen visa applications intended for tourism or private visits. Under this new process, applicants will no longer select appointment dates directly. Instead, they must register on a waiting list through the authorized intermediary, VFS Global.

The system categorizes applicants into two distinct lists based on their previous visa history. The first list is for individuals who have previously held a Schengen visa that expired within the last two years. The second list is for first-time applicants and those whose previous visas expired more than two years ago.

Additionally, a specific waiting list will be created for truck drivers involved in international transport in Ankara. This new regulation is limited to short-term tourist and private visit categories; other visa types will continue to use existing appointment methods. Applicants must first complete their forms on the official France-Visas portal before being redirected to the VFS Global system.
