France to implement school screening for sexual violence
The French Ministry of National Education has announced a new initiative scheduled for November 2026 aimed at identifying gender-based and sexual violence. Unlike existing protocols that focus on student bullying from the CE2 level onward, this new system will target students from kindergarten (grande section) through high school (terminale).
The program intends to use age-appropriate questioning to allow students to report incidents and request interviews with trusted adults. While the specific wording and implementation methods are still under discussion, the goal is to provide a platform for children who may not spontaneously disclose abuse due to fear, confusion, or a desire to protect others.
The Independent Commission on Incest and Sexual Violence Against Children (CIIVISE) has expressed support for the effort to break the silence surrounding these issues. However, the commission emphasized that the initiative must be accompanied by competent listening, adequate protection, and guaranteed access to medical and psychological care for those who come forward.
